A practical checklist for ChatGPT and Gemini in everyday life
Checks to make before relying on an AI response.
AI conversations can speed up simple work, but review remains necessary. Use this checklist before sharing generated writing, acting on recommendations or linking an outside account.
1. State the purpose
Clarify whether you want ideas, a draft, a lesson or a structured comparison. “Turn these notes into decisions and open questions” is easier to check than “do something useful with this”.
2. Provide relevant context
State country, audience, age group or restrictions only when they matter. Choose the intended language and check regional terminology and units before publishing for different markets.
3. Inspect the input
Remove unnecessary sensitive details and make sure you are authorized to share files. Check that the assistant has access to the correct document version. Never assume it knows facts you did not supply.
4. Ask for uncertainty to be visible
Request separation of facts, assumptions and missing information. When documents are involved, ask for references to the actual passages used. Open those passages to confirm the interpretation.
5. Verify numbers and named entities
Dates, prices, calculations, legislation and product specifications need independent checks. Use calculators, official websites or primary documents as appropriate. Fluent prose can contain factual errors.
6. Keep sensitive decisions with people
Employment, medicine, credit and law depend on individual circumstances and sometimes specialist evaluation. Use AI to organize questions and alternatives, not to replace professional judgment.
7. Review connected actions
Before enabling email, storage or third-party services, examine permissions and possible effects. If a tool can send, delete or publish, require a preview and approval of the precise action.
8. Save responsibly
Keep important reusable prompts and results in an appropriate place, with dates and source notes. Test recurring workflows again after product changes. Do not assume a feature will remain available indefinitely.
A brief review before using an answer can prevent a few saved minutes from turning into lengthy corrections.
