If you listen to audiobooks and wonder how much time you gain by speeding up the narration, this calculator answers instantly. Enter the audiobook's length and the speed you plan to use, such as 1.25x or 1.5x, and see how many real hours you will listen and how many you save. It helps you decide which speed is worth the effort.
The tool takes the audiobook's original length in hours and the playback speed. Actual listening time is the length divided by the speed, because listening at 2x fits the same content into half the time. Time saved is the difference between the original length and the actual listening time. If the speed is zero or invalid, the tool treats it as normal length and shows no savings.
A 12-hour audiobook played at 1.5x takes 12 ÷ 1.5 = 8 hours, saving 4 hours. At 1.25x it would be 9.6 hours, saving 2.4. At 2x, the same book drops to 6 hours. So moving from 1.25x to 1.5x saves another 1.6 hours on this title.
The math covers time only, not listening quality. Comprehension at higher speeds varies by person, narrator and type of book. Dense nonfiction tends to need slower speeds than light fiction.
