Once a week: 5 things worth your time.
1 story, 1 idea, 1 discovery, 1 tool, 1 book.
Living abroad is more than wanting to — see how much groundwork you've actually laid.
Readiness level
Not yet
There's still real groundwork to do before taking the leap — and that's okay, it's part of the process.
This is a reflective self-check, not a guarantee of success in the move — every situation has variables only you know.
A six-question self-test that gauges how well you have prepared for a move abroad: financial reserve, language, family support, job or income security, adaptability and research on cost of living, visas and paperwork. It helps you spot gaps before you commit to the decision to live overseas.
Each question is answered on a scale from 0 (not at all) to 5 (completely). The tool adds up the six answers, for a maximum of 30 points, and works out the share of that maximum. Below 40% the level is Not yet, from 40% up to under 70% it is On your way, and from 70% it is Ready. The result appears with a short description.
Suppose your answers are 4, 3, 3, 2, 4 and 3. The sum is 19 out of 30, about 63%. That falls between 40% and 70%, so the level is On your way. To reach Ready you would need at least 21 points, which is 70% of the maximum.
This is a reflective self-test, not a guarantee of success or a professional assessment. Every question weighs the same, and your situation has variables only you know. Use the result to see where to prepare better, not to decide on your own.
