Gives a simple snapshot of your financial position: what you own minus what you owe. Enter your total assets and total debts to see your net worth and your debt-to-asset ratio, a quick way to tell whether your balance sheet is in the black or the red.
The tool subtracts total debts from total assets to reach net worth, which can be negative. It then divides debts by assets and multiplies by 100 to show the debt-to-asset ratio as a percentage. If assets are zero, the ratio shows as zero. Updating the numbers from time to time reveals your progress. You can use any currency, as long as assets and debts are in the same unit.
You add up 50,000 in assets (cash, investments, a car) and 15,000 in debts (a loan, a credit card). Net worth is 35,000. The debt-to-asset ratio is 30%, meaning that for every 100 you own, 30 are tied up in debt. Paying off 5,000 would not change net worth, but the ratio would fall.
It relies on you valuing assets and debts honestly, and home and vehicle values move. It shows neither liquidity nor cash flow. It is a snapshot, not financial advice.
